ArcLight Screaming Babies

Well, so much for the ArcLight--formerly my only officially approved theater for new releases. For the first time I encountered an irritating screaming baby through an entire movie. I thought they had ninja stealth assassins on staff to take these critters out under the shroud of darkness? Times must be rough.

Granted, the movie was Spider-Man 3....so it wasn't like the experience could get any worse. Too bad Richard Pryor is dead, he would have been perfect in this one.

ON ROGER CORMAN:
Corman began his career in 1953 as a producer and screenwriter, and began directing in 1955. Until his so-called "retirement" as a director in 1971 (he continued to produce films even after this date) he would produce up to seven movies a year; his fastest film was perhaps The Little Shop of Horrors (1960), which was reputedly shot in two days and one night.

Roger Corman’s eye for talent and unique abilities as a mentor have launched a number of stellar careers. Graduates of the “Corman film school” include producers Jon Davison and Gale Anne Hurd; writers and writer/directors Robert Towne and John Sayles; actors Sandra Bullock, Charles Bronson, Robert DeNiro, Peter Fonda, Diane Ladd, Jack Nicholson, William Shatner, Talia Shire, Sylvester Stallone and directors Peter Bogdanovich, James Cameron, Francis Ford Coppola, Joe Dante, Jonathan Demme, Carl Franklin, Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese.

ON “THE BIG SLEEP” (1946):
Director Howard Hawks transforms one of Raymond Chandler's best hard-boiled detective mysteries transformed into a film noir classic. It is a complex, logic-defying whodunit with a quintessential private detective (Marlowe), false leads, unforgettable dialogue and wisecracks, raw-edged characters, sexy women, tough action, gunplay, a series of electrifying scenes and screen violence, starring one of the most seductive on-screen couples, Bogie and Bacall.

Experimental film night - request for submissions/ideas

On Thursday, February 2nd and the first Thursday of every month thereafter, Basswerks hosts a movie night in our eclectic art theater space in West LA, and we need submissions, requests, and ideas.

Our monthly movie nights are an outlet for our extended family of friends (and their friends too) who are DJs, Audio/Visual, Indie Filmmakers, Home Movie Enthusiasts and want to share some of their ideas or creations. We welcome suggestions and contributions. Some ideas are:

* Remix the soundtrack of a movie by DJing while it plays - control the movie soundtrack as well as your own mix to create something new
* Full A/V Performances
* Low Budget movies that you've made
* It Came From The Internet
* Or maybe just kick back and watch a great movie in the company of friends and beer.

Please mark your calendars to attend on the first Thursday of each month, and contact me (aleta) with any ideas and/or submissions.

Hey, I am back from Flaming gay Paris!

So I am taking a few days to recover and then hope to start this thing up again. Any suggestions for movies to see? any changes to how we do this?

It seems that King Kong is ripe for viewing and gettting critically analyzed. What are your picks?

PS

Lady and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains is showing at the Nuart tonight at midnight!

Just caught a Batman double feature at the New Beverly

and whoa, does the Michael Keaton version have flaws.

I loved it when it came out, championed it more accurately. But seeing it after the Christian Bale version, several things jump out.

First, the Danny Elfman score seems very heavy-handed at times, intruding on the film.

Secondly, that line "I just want to know, if we are going to try and love each other" line from Vicky Vale seemed bad in 89; in 05, it is truly repugnant.

Next, that batsuit. It looks good as long as it is a long shot, and MK isn't moving. The cowl is more like a bat helmet, huge and not letting him move well.

And a lot of the effects look w a a a a y dated. Some go as far as to be bad. (the spotlights at the end, Batman turning and walking in from the balcony at the beginning.)

In the positive side of things, Jack Nicholson's performance still holds up, the comedy is still there.

It was cool to see the two movies and compare them. I think the New Beverly needs a new projector, though. There were some serious focus issues.

GALAXIE PICTURES is currently developing 'Unfiltered', the directorial debut for Creighton Vero, screenwriter of the indie cult hit 'Spun'.

For more information contact: pete@galaxie-pictures.com

SYNOPSIS:

Teenage Sherri, a new arrival to Lake Charles, Louisiana, gets a rude awakening as the locals give her a slice of real Southern hospitality, small town style. Included in her Lake Charles initiation are some hard lessons on friendship, family, and bigotry—not the kind made of ephemeral remarks and incidental ostracizing of outsiders, but real and vicious institutional racism, the kind that ends in murder.

Sherri arrives as the locals prepare for the funeral of Mary, the town’s Contraband Days Celebration Queen. With her death begins the shattering of the perfect picture of southern hospitality that she represents. Grieving is glossed over in favor of panic about the town’s quickly evaporating marijuana supply. What’s really died is the smiling welcoming south, and its warmth and hospitality are quickly replaced by a rapid growth of weeds.

Then the ensemble cast of Unfiltered gradually unwinds into a hard picture of gritty southern life as facades of tolerance gradually peel / crumble away. What’s revealed is the stuff that’s usually swept under the carpet.

Hi Everyone!!!

If i were in LA right now, I would be organizing everyone to go see You and ME and Everyone We Know at the Nuart theater this weekend.

But since I am in Paris!, I will instead INSIST that everyone go see this movie. I saw it already and it is my favorite film of the year hands down.

Really, it is an awesome movie and it needs your help because it is way indy and opening weekend is really important for these kinds of movies if they are to last.

It won camera d'or at Cannes and Ebert said it was his favorite at Sundance.

Take all your friends with you, they will be forever greatful!

Egyptian Theatre
6712 Hollywood Boulevard
Hollywood, CA

Friday, April 15 – 8:00 PM

STAR WARS: EPISODE V – THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, 1980, 20th Century Fox/LucasFilm, 127 min. Dir. Irvin Kershner. Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams, with the voices of Frank Oz and James Earl Jones. George Lucas’s action-packed (and surprisingly moving) sequel to the original STAR WARS is everything a great sci-fi/adventure film should be, filled with astounding set pieces (the battle on the ice planet Hoth, the Cloud City), as well as rich and wonderful characters (Han Solo and Princess Leia’s ongoing romance, Luke and Darth Vader’s climactic light saber duel). And don’t forget one of the oddest heroes in all moviedom: 3-foot high Jedi Master, Yoda! This film originally played at the Egyptian when it was released 25 years ago! It opened on May 21, 1980.

I will not be able to make this showing, but I thought someone out there might want to know.
SYNOPSIS:
An alien teenager flees his own society to warn Earth of its impending doom.

REVIEW:
So Bad, It's Brilliant! This has to be once of the worst movies ever made. As a drama, it's a complete failure, but it succeeds quite well as an unintentional comedy. With bad acting and horrible production values, it's a real stinker, but it is just so consistently bad that you'll find yourself laughing the entire ninety minutes. Get a copy of this classic and enjoy it with some friends.

Vincent Price at Cinematheque!

This weekend they are showing Vincent Price movies at the cinematheque in Hollywood and Santa Monica.

Check the website for details:
http://www.americancinematheque.com/

I HIGHLY recommend The Conquerer Worm (aka Witchfinder General) on Satruday at the Aero. Directed by Michael Reeves (who made one more movie and then committed suicide, the Nick Drake of british film) Price considered this his best performance. No campy stuff in this one, it's slightly horrifying!)

and on Sunday night at the Aero it's Dr. Phibes and Theater of Blood. Both movies follow the same formula but the subtext of Theater of Blood is a great bash to critics who get down on a film because it is violent, ie Price's career.

Pink says CHECK IT OUT!

Based on "The Astronauts" by the great Stanislaw Lem (SOLARIS), this SF curio also boasts a multinational cast, as well as beautiful photography and production design. Though Lem disowned the film, it stands on its own rather well and is probably one of the best SF films from the fifties.
This Tuesday (2/8) we are showing:
VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET
8pm & 10pm

SYNOPSIS:
Explorers are surprised to find that Venus is populated with prehistoric dinosaurs. Special effects scenes taken from the Russian science-fiction "Planeta Burg."

AMAZON.COM REVIEW:
This film is much better than it looks. Its a film about the exploration of Venus and its really good especially if you factor in when it was made. The scenes with Basil Rathbone at the lunar base are definitely a little hokey and I didnt recognize Faith Dominque (This Island Earth) at first, but the rest of the film is great! The plot is basicly explore Venus and rescue the first team that landed and got into trouble. The explorers have a really neat hover craft that they travel in to save their comrades. There is a tough metal robot that is realistic. Dinosaurs and other nasties try to make a meal of various crew members without success. Its just an all around fun film along the gendre of First Spaceship to Venus. The special effects are innovative and impressive especially considering the time when the film was made. I saw this film when I was a kid and was happy to make its reacquaintance. If you like classic science fiction, you will love this film.

Presenting...
The Nova Express Cafe Sci-Fi Movie Night Calendar for February 2005.

Stop by tomorrow night to see The Giant Gila Monster, playing at 8pm & 10pm.

Jan 26: The Giant Gila Monster
Feb 2: King Kong vs Godzilla
Feb 9: Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet
Feb 16: The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues
Feb 23: First Spaceship on Venus

THE GIANT GILA MONSTER * WED, JAN 26
8pm & 10pm

Amazon.com Review
The tranquility of a small Texas town is ruined when an enormous rear-projection lizard begins to terrorize the place! At first, the adults dismiss the kids' hysterics as nonsense. The sheriff is helpless and the adults fail miserably to defeat the thing, so it's up to the teenagers to take it on. Though this movie relies a little too heavily on plot and characters and not enough on giant lizards, it's still a fun slice of '50s camp. The lead character (played by Don Sullivan) sings some wildly inappropriate and goofy songs for some unintended comic relief. Rock & roll, hot rods, teenagers, huge monsters... all the elements are in place for this faintly ridiculous '50s funfest. --Jerry Renshaw --

Description
A monster of unknown origin stalks Lover's Lane in search of fresh teenagers to devour in this monster-sized bash filled with rock 'n' roll, hot rods, poodle skirts, and prehistoric lizards the size of a Greyhound bus! Teens realize the cause of an escalating chain of destruction in their sleepy town, but authorities refuse to believe them until the corpses start piling up. Starring Ken Curtis (Festus from TV's "Gunsmoke") and directed by Ray Kellogg (The Green Berets), this is great and fabulous fun from the nifty Fifties, newly remastered like you've never seen it before!

Just some heads up -

If you want tribe members to meet you for a movie, just start a new topic with the movie, date in the Subject and the pertinenent info in the body.

Also -

The Cinematheque has opened the Westside theater this month. The programming is similar and sometimes repeats what plays at the Egyptian in Hollywood. This one is at The Aero theater at 14th and Montana in Santa Monica. I used to go there in my youth and it is a really cool, ol' skool theater the kind you just don't see anymore. I haven't been yet but this week I believe a bunch of Guy Madden stuff is playing (I reccomend the Dracula one).

Also, the LA County Museum of Art is showing a bunch of Von Stroheim stuff that should probably not be missed, especially the stuff he directed.

Sorry that I have been a bad Cine Fiend Tribe leader and haven't organized any movies for y'all to get together. I have been a bit consumed with my own movie being accepted (as a work in progress) to the San Francisco Indie Film Festival next month.

Cheers and see you at the movies!

TONIGHT - First Spaceship On Venus

Nova Express Movie Nite - Wed, Jan 19 - 8pm and 10pm

This weeks movie is....
FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS!

Description
Mankind's most incredible journey! After discovering a communications device from Venus containing a message of the impending attack of Earth, an international crew of astronauts and scientists embark on the first manned expedition to the mystery-shrouded planet. Upon arrival, they discover the ruins of an advanced civilization that destroyed itself in its zealous quest to master atomic weaponry.

Amazon.com Review
In a utopian future of universal peace and brotherhood--1985 to be specific--a mysterious artifact found in Siberia is discovered to be a message from Venus. While the recording is studied, an international team of scientists is rocketed off to make contact with the mysterious planet. It takes the film some time to get going (worldwide harmony makes for a beautiful future but pallid drama when everyone gets along so nicely), but things begin to cook once they land on the misty wasteland of Venus. Swarms of metal bugs hop from glassy mutant trees and bubbling black mud oozes after our astronaut heroes, but no Venusians can be found amidst the geodesic architecture and buzzing power plants. What they discover instead is a terrifying conspiracy wrapped in an anti-war parable. Based on a novel by Polish science fiction legend Stanislaw Lem (whose work also inspired Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris), this German science fiction adventure is a visual treat, from the sleek, grand, silver spaceship and a funky purple Venus landscape of alien ruins and crystalline bubbles. Decently (if prosaically) dubbed and trimmed down to a brisk 78 minutes, it's an entertaining triumph of psychedelic art direction and desolate alien weirdness presented in all its brightly colored, widescreen glory. --Sean Axmaker

Wednesday, 12/22/04, 8:00p and 10:00p
A promo campaign has gone awry and an atom bomb is out of the question. King Kong was happy eating berries and being worshiped like a God on his island, but now he's making a mess. An atom bomb is out of the question. The only solution is to melt that iceberg that contains Godzilla.

I know it's been a long time since I rapped to you all! How you been.

First, EVERYONE GO SEE THE INCREDIBLES. It's... wel INCREDIBLE.

Good entertainment and the best super hero movie EVER made.

Next, we need a movie for the first week of December to go see. Something juicy that we can sink our teeth into. Maybe the new Wes Anderson flick. That's the weekend of Dec 10th. I am not the biggest fan, in fact I disliked Tennanbaums emensely, but I know that I will have to see this one to battle my W. Anderson apologist friends. For my friends I will even suffer the possibility of some of my favorite music get associated with a Wes Anderson flick. (The horror!)

I just now noticed that there are 47 of y'all on here, which is cool. Last I checked it was 21!

So unless someone else has a really bright idea of a movie, the Life Aquatic i think it should be.

Loving you all more each day

The most controversial film of the year?!? the film 'they' don't want you to see?

Not even the bill board on sunset blvd. lasted very long before it was demanded that it be taken down.

Vincent Gallo's newest, The Brown Bunny starts Friday at the Nuart theater!

Unfortunately I am going to be spending the weekend seeing the Harry Kumel stuff at the cinematheque, which I highly recommend since some aren't even on video i believe. But i do want to see this movie! Let me know if you are interested during the week.

This weekend - Quadruple Feature!

Ok, it is time folks. This weekend is going to ROCK at the cinematheque. It is the Adults Only - pre NC-17 film fest.

here is the quick breakdown

Friday
7pm Last Tango In Paris
9:45pm Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (get there early for sure!)

Sunday
5pm Performance
and The Devils (it is a double feature but i assume The Devils begins around 7)

Things kick off on Friday with BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. If you have only seen this on video, then you have not seen BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS! which is pan and scan on video and you miss a couple jokes because of it! It is the greatest American movie ever. I will also be seeing Last Tango in Paris at 7pm because I have never seen it. I can't guarantee that film, but it is a classic!

On Sunday it is a double Feature of Roeg's Performance with some of the most beautiful psychedelic hand held camera work ever. This movie is a trip and worth every second. Awe inspiring.

Followed by Ken Russel's - THE DEVILS. How Russel avoided getting killed for making this movie, God only knows. Still shocking after all these years (33 to be exact). Probably Russel's best film. Unforgetable.

See you there!

Sunday September 12 5pm
Cinemtheque in Hollywood
Egyptian Theater
6712 Hollywood Blvd

DOUBLE FEATURE!

Performance (1970) and Ken Russll's The Devils (1971)

These two films are part of the Cinematheque's "Adults Only" festival, X-rated movies from back in the day. They are also showing things like Last Tango and CLockwork Orange and Midnight Cowboy - all films that were originally released with X-Ratings. From the brochure : "While many of these films contain sexual material that seems tame today, by the standards of the era they were seen as seriously provocative. Just as important, many of these films were politically and socially subversive, redefining the boundaries of what could be shown and said in commercial, mainstream cinema."

These are two extremely psychedelic films that will BLOW YOUR MIND! Guranteed. And to see them on the big screen is a treat indeed. I do know that Performance is a relatively new print with new sound. The Devils might not fare so well.

PERFORMANCE, 1970, Warner Bros.,105 min. Dirs. Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg. Perhaps the wildest, most deeply layered psychedelic movie ever made. Gangster James Fox goes on the lam, hiding out in reclusive pop star Mick Jagger’s decaying townhouse in the hippie London ghetto. Jagger and poly-sexual pal Anita Pallenberg put Fox through his paces with mind games and large doses of psylocibin mushrooms – all climaxing in the mind-blowing "Memo for Turner" production number. Brutal beatings, sexual identity crises and prodigious drug taking is punctuated by one of Jack Nitzsche’s best scores (highlighted by Ry Cooder’s incredible bottleneck guitar work).

THE DEVILS, 1971, Warner Bros., 111 min. Director Ken Russell’s still-shocking adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s "Devils Of Loudon" was vilified as blasphemous and excessive upon its initial release, and remains one of the most disturbingly memorable films from the early 1970s. The film’s allegory of a corrupt power structure equating sexual activity with satanism, all for the sake of political and religious repression, is more relevant today than ever. In the 17th century, French Cardinal Richelieu’s minions use the womanizing of activist priest Urban Grandier (Oliver Reed) as pretext for the Inquisition to investigate his "diabolic possession" of the local nuns, including demented, hunchbacked Mother Superior Sister Jeanne (an unforgettable Vanessa Redgrave). With support from an excellent cast that includes Dudley Sutton, Gemma Jones and Michael Gothard.

More info to come about where to meet beforehand.

I understand that for some people this movie might mean something to them and ultimately I am all for the movie's "finding yourself" theme. I even heard a young girl say as she left the theater: " some of the lines in that movie were, like, right out of my head."

However, I am not a fan of the Zach show. I think if he put someone other than himself in it I would have liked it better. On one level it just seemed like too much looking into the bathroom mirror. On another, the film making was rather pedestrian and not very dramatic. Even though the situation might have called for a scene to be dramatic (meaning to have tension and feeling) there was none there.

No chemestry between Portmand and the Zach guy. Though we do get to see NP in her underware (Last Picture Show? )

All in all I felt the movie was a bit too fratty. (also, if that motorcycle was his and was just sitting in the garage, it would take a lot more effort to get it running again. theoretically he could have put new oil in it etc, and I would have liked to have seen that scene.) An Internal Rushmore of the Old School.

Movies that I think do it better;

Any of the early Hal Hartley films: Unbelievable Truth, Trust, Simple Men
I've been debating a friend on the merits of the political message of the movie. Of course, I'm at a distinct disadvantage-- not having seen the movie yet!

Time of The Wolf

Hey Fiendsters!

Time of the Wolf is playing at the Nuart this week and it will probably fade into obscurity after that. I saw this film last year in Paris and was kinda blown away by it. It wasn't what I was expecting at all. I recommend it highly and gurantee it is unlike anything you have seen storywise.

Don't read any reviews or synopsis because they immediately give away an element that made the film very interesting to me.

Kinda like if before you saw Purple Rose of Cairo (SPOILER) and someone told you it was about a girl that enters a movie she fantasizes about. That surprise in someways made the movie for me. This film probably won't fill you with joy that that one did, but it is an intriguing look at human nature. Don't let 'em spoil it!

There is a 7:30pm show on Friday.

If you are down then let me know if you want me to get you a ticket(s)

I will be a the theater early to save seats etc, you have to get there by 7:20.

ahright? i wil get tickets tonight.

Friday - The Control Room at the Nuart. 7:30 pm ( i could be talked into the 9:45 pm show)

Saturday - Cinematheque/Egyptian in Hollywood.
Once Upon A Time In The West - 8pm

If you only see one western your whole life this is the one to see.

Even if you only see the first 15 minutes of this movie it is worth the price of admission. Maybe the greatest first 15 minutes in cinema, ever and also maybe even Morricone's best score. Written by Dario Argento (SUSPIRIA) and Bernardo Bertolucci (Last Tango in Paris) and directed by Sergio Leone. This film followed the Clint Eastwood westerns and is much more epic in scope and execution. If you haven't seen this then you haven't seen the greatest western of all time, if only for the first 15 minutes.

Brand new print in Techniscope-

Techniscope, introduced to America by Technicolor Rome in 1963, provides the low-budget and student filmmaker with both unequaled savings in raw stock and the opulent look of widescreen cinematography without the use of anamorphic lenses.

Techniscope yields widescreen cinematography in the aspect ratio of 2.35:1 without the use of anamorphic lenses. Techniscope films are shot with standard spherical lenses that are easily available, more economical to rent, require less light and offer greater depth-of-field than anamorphic lenses. Techniscope accomplishes spherical widescreen cinematography through the use of modified cameras.

Standard cameras expose each frame on the negative in four perforation increments. Techniscope cameras expose each frame on the negative in two perforation increments. The camera aperture is modified to render an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. This two-perforation movement and halved gate height provide two frames for what standard cameras produce as one frame. Techniscope cameras use half the amount of 35mm film for the equivalent running time of standard 35mm cinematography. A 1,000' roll of 35mm film normally yields a running time of 10 minutes. With Techniscope, a 1,000' roll yields a running time of 20 minutes.

Classic quotes from the film -

"How can you trust a man that wears both suspenders and a belt. Man can't even trust his own pants."

see you there!

hi.

i saw this movie this weekend. it was playing at the multiplex in ventura. i have no idea why. i think it may have gotten a fairly major release, but i doubt it will last long in theaters.

i would recommend it, but sort of conditionally. it's beautiful, but kind of grim. bleak. literary.

it stars tilda swinton and ewan mcgregor, has a score by david byrne, and takes place in this overcast, coal-blackened glasgow, sometime (indeterminate) between wwII and the beatnik jazz age...

i'd say it was haunting, but haunting might suggest more sentimentality than exists here. it's cold, and distant in its portrayal of characters, and perhaps only one of them is appealing in a human way.

but i have a feeling that it's one of those films that will find it's way into dreams.

glasgow must be a really depressing place.

Godzilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's time for a different kind of film for Cine-Fiends and Godzilla is it.

I am thinking opening night which is May 14th 10pm show

Let me know if that works for you.

This is the original Japanese version. When the film was released in America, new actors were brought in and a different story line was used. Unless you own it on video you probably have not scene this one. "Originally directed by the legendary Ishirô Honda, Gojira (its original title, a mixture of the Japanese words for "gorilla" and "whale") is much darker in tone than the U.S. release edition, which de-emphasized the film's underlying theme of burgeoning nuclear menace, effectively obscuring a narrative meant as a cry for world peace and disarmament."

i had never heard of him but I think he really nails it. I don't agree completely, cause I still love my Mulholland Drive to my dying days, but it made me think. It is long you might want to print it.

Our Review:
Is controversial Dogma 95 filmmaker Lars von Trier (Dancer in the Dark) playing games with us? It seems so, since the Danish director decided to shoot his Depression-era flick entirely on a dark soundstage, on what's basically a virtual game board which features a town's shops, streets and homes outlined in chalk on the ground. Get it, people? There's nothing there. Stars like on-the-run Nicole Kidman and domineering town moralist Paul Bettany knock on doors that don't exist and care for gooseberry bushes that aren't there. Oh, and the story's missing, too. Kidman stumbles into the small mining community and is put to work in exchange for some protection from the police and gangsters on her trail. It all goes wrong, the suspicious townsfolk turn on her, and, well, people talk about it. The acting is ice cold. The dialogue is lethargic. And if we're going to sit through any movie that's 177 minutes, it better have some Hobbits in it. There are no Hobbits here, so stay home.

Shaolin Soccer?

Just kidding, though I would be up for it, but it opens next week which might be too soon.

So lets open it up to suggestions for the next movie to see.

Even though I know it is going to suck, I would say Kill Bill v.2 would be a good choice. I love dissin' Tarantino any chance I get.

It doesn't have to be a new film either, it could be something at the New Beverly, LACMA, Cinematheque or the Silent Movie Theater.

Start throwing them out.

Dogville - Some things to think about

It was great to see y'all there! on a school night even. it seemed like everyone had a challenging time at the movies.

here is just a tidbit of information on the ending:

"... the photographs of American down-and-outs used for polemical effect during Dogville’s controversial closing credits were taken during the 1970s by the Danish photographer Jacob Holdt, whose grim view of the U.S. became a “religion,” he says, among Danish intellectuals." - From the current LA Weekly article on Von Trier - http://www.laweekly.com/ink/04/18/features-bernhard.php

many months ago I found a great essay on the song Young American but the affiliate glut on the internet makes it impossible to find now. Basically I remember it saying how the song is about the disappointment on the unfulfillment of the promise of America.

Von Trier + Kingdom + Stephen King - Good Taste - Von Trier = Crap

I am royally pissed off that Stephen King made this American version of Lars Von Trier's "The Kingdom" miniseries, yet almost no mention is made of the original Danish show.
